Cosmetic Cover Post-Processing

How to Attach a 3D Printed Cosmetic Cover to a Prosthetic Leg

Once your cosmetic cover has been 3D printed, there are two main ways to attach it to the prosthetic leg.

Method 1: Back Seam Cut Installation

  1. Cut the Cover Along the Back Seam
  • Using a fine saw or rotary tool, cut the cosmetic cover along the back seam from top to bottom.
  • Keep the cut as straight as possible for a clean closure.

  1. Wrap the Cover Around the Pylon
  • Open the cover slightly and position it around the pylon.
  • Align the cover for proper fit and symmetry.

  1. Secure the Back Seam

Choose the closure method that fits your needs:

  • Permanent: Apply a strong adhesive to bond the seam closed.
  • Re-openable: Use one or two Velcro straps to allow future access if adjustments are needed.

Method 2: Foot Removal Installation

  1. Detach the Foot. Remove the foot from the distal end of the pylon.

  1. Slide on the Cover. Slide the cover down the pylon into position.

  1. Re-attach the Foot. Securely reinstall the foot, ensuring proper alignment and torque.

Choosing the Best Method

  • Back Seam Cut: Faster installation, flexible for future access.

  • Foot Removal: Seamless appearance with no closure hardware.
