Filament Dehydration

Why should I dry filament?

  • Wet filament is a cause of stringiness in prints, airprints and poor quality prints.

How do I dry filament?

  • Dedicated Filament Dryer

This is the most reliable method. These devices are designed to maintain a stable temperature and dry filament for 6 hours at 65°C or 140-150°F.

Leaving the filament within the dryer for extended periods of time isn't harmful to the filament.

  • Oven

This method is less reliable as standard ovens may not be designed to maintain the lower temperature for long periods of time. The filament needs to dry at the same temperatures at 65°C or 140-150°F for 6 hours.

Post-Drying Storage

Once dried, Filament will begin absorbing moisture again immediately. To keep it dry:

Aim for a storage environment with less than 20% humidity.

Feel free to leave the filament within the filament dryer to prevent humidity absorption.
