Going from a Check Socket to Definitive
Transitioning from a Check Socket to a Definitive Socket
When moving from a check socket to a definitive socket, we want to ensure accuracy, comfort, and consistency for your patient. There are multiple pathways available depending on your clinic’s workflow and preferences.
How to Order
1. Start a Revision from an Existing Order
If you already ordered a check socket from us and now need to order a definitive, you can submit a full revision.
- In FabOne, navigate to My Orders, and click "Revise" next to your desired order.
- Click Full Revision > Definitive Socket > Protosthetics CFAB.
- Make your selection, then click "New Order" to open up our definitive order form. This will attach your previous check socket order to your new definitive.
2. Start a New Order
If you haven't ordered a check socket from us but want to order the definitive, you'll need to start a new order.
- On your FabOne home page, click order under "Definitive Socket."
- Proceed with the order form as needed.
Modification Options
1. Fill with Plaster; Then Scan & Measure
If major modifications were made to the check socket, we recommend filling the modified socket with plaster, then taking updated scans and measurements over that model.
- Ensures the most accurate, up-to-date limb shape
- Captures both modifications and true volume
- Adds a few extra steps, but increases reliability for a well-fitting definitive
2. Ship the Modified Check Socket to our CFAB
If you prefer, you can ship the physical modified check socket to our CFAB
- We will pour and capture the modifications directly
- Maintains your clinical adjustments without extra scanning
- Best for when you want our team to handle the entire process hands-on
3. Digital Modifications from Your Notes
If your check socket is fitting well but still needs reliefs or adjustments:
- You provide detailed notes on the modifications you’d like
- Our design team will apply those changes digitally
- We’ll send you photos of the final design before creating the definitive
4. Scan with Minor Adjustments Only
For minor modifications (e.g., brim or trimline adjustments that don’t affect volume):
- You can scan the inside of the hand-modified socket
- We’ll apply final check socket measurements to that scan (check socket after all mods/global changes)
- Allows you to capture small clinical adjustments while retaining consistent socket volume
5. Proceed with Current Check Socket
If no changes need to be made to the check socket:
- Let us know to proceed as-is
- We will move directly to the definitive process using the digital model of the check socket we already have
Summary
Each of these options provides flexibility depending on your workflow:
- Major modifications: Plaster fill → scan & measure
- Hands-off: Ship to Wade
- Major reliefs/adjustments: Send us notes → digital modification
- Minor tweaks: Scan modified socket → we apply final check socket measurements to that scan
- No changes: Proceed directly with the existing check socket model
Choose the method that fits your patient’s needs and your clinic’s workflow, and we’ll ensure the definitive socket is built to the highest standard.
