Pectus Brace Post-Fitting Instructions
Pectus Brace | Post-Fitting Instruction Manual
Congratulations on completing your fitting with Protosthetics! This marks the exciting start of your journey to achieve the results you came to us for. Here’s some key information we want to make sure you have on hand for the rest of your journey:
- Wear instructions:
- Remember, you should not wear your pectus brace while showering, in water, or while doing intense physical activity.
- If you want to wear a shirt under your brace, try and choose a cotton tee. Avoid sweat wicking shirts (Under Armor style shirts) as they can cause chafing.
- As your body gets used to the brace, you’ll want to gradually increase wear hours. Please plan to follow the following wear schedules for the first week until you get to day 6, when you’ll begin sleeping in the brace.
Day | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
Hours | 2 | 4 | 6 | 8 | 10 | 18 | 20+ |
2. Putting On and Taking Off:
- When putting on the brace, ensure that the back panel is centered and at the same level as the pectus carinatum or rib flare so that when you clasp and tighten, the entire brace will be aligned with the target protrusion.
- One way to do this is to center the back panel, and stand back to a wall to hold the brace in the place - then close and tighten from there.
- When taking off the brace, make sure to unclick the Boa straps before undoing the fidlock. This will ensure that you don’t apply too much pressure when reapplying.
- Making sure it’s effective:
- You’ll want to see a bit of red on the target protrusion - this means pressure is being applied in the correct place.
- If your chest wall is more rigid, you may feel a little sore the first few days as your body gets accustomed to the pressure.
- Cleaning:
- Using a solution of 80% rubbing alcohol and 20% water, gently rub the solution on the inside of the panels to clean. Allow them to dry before wearing.
- Next Steps:
- We recommend scanning at 3 months to compare the original scan with the current one and track progress. Feel welcome to do this every quarter until goals are met.
